This kit is perfect for homeowners who have chipped their granite, marble, and other natural stone counters. However, despite the rugged nature of granite, it can still chip if a cast iron pan plummets into your countertop’s edge. In just a matter of minutes, you’ll be able to treat, repair, and polish your granite countertop – saving you valuable time and money. The same process is used during the production of granite slabs in quarries around the world.

The hardener will help the epoxy to set and ensure the strength of the chip repair. Once the hardener has dried then carefully use a razor blade, or a similar tool, to smooth out the chipped area to match the rest of your granite countertop.

Because of the natural variations in granite, it is impossible to tell that the area ever had an imperfection, since the epoxy is translucent. Because granite is carved from the mountains, it requires some preparation to become the slabs that you see in granite stockyards. For the finishing touch of your granite repair, take a piece of steel wool and buff out the area until it looks smooth and beautiful.

Repairing Chips Holes Spalling In Natural Stone by marblerestorationco.com

Like efflorescence, mineral salts are the cause for spalling and pitting. Hitting the edge of a counter or dropping something heavy on the granite, marble or other natural stone could cause a chip or hole that requires filling.

After filling, the area must also be restored to smooth out and level the filler material with the stone surface.

This condition is common on stone exposed to large amounts of water or when deicing salts are used for ice removal on concrete. Instead of the salts depositing on the surface like efflorescence, they deposit below the surface of the stone, causing pressure within the stone, which creates stone spalls or pits. It is more common for chips and holes to occur near a kitchen stove top or sink as that is where most of the kitchen traffic happens. It is best to call a stone care expert as this process requires a lot of time and experience to ensure the fill blends with the rest of the stone.

Need Help Picking Backsplash Bianco Antico by houzz.com

I would use a small (1″x2″ or 2″x3″) subway tile lay in a brick pattern. I just did my own kitchen in a neutral subway tile, but added the herringbone pattern for interest. Your grey paint colors to me look like they are on the greener side of grey (still grey, but not with a warm undertone, if that makes sense), so you don’t want to purchase just any cream or grey tile – not all are created equal! We carry glossy and frosted finishes, depending on if you want a sheen or not. If the undertones aren’t quite right in the sample then the clash will be magnified when the tile covers the wall! I think it’s very underutilized – a great way to make your kitchen unique and add some interest without going over the top. Good luck, and keep us posted with install photos and how everything is going! You will see various photos of this granite to help you make a decision.

We can also come up with more options and help you customize to your taste!

I would suggest a tumbled stone backsplash that will coordinate with those mocha and cream colors. Something with a little more variation (not too much, you don’t want to take away from the granite) or darker to really contrast the granite?

Thank you both for taking the time to give me your thoughts and providing pictures! I might have mosaic tile as an accent or something behind the stove. You could also think about laying subway tile vertical (like in this orange kitchen – but of course yours won’t be orange). Who would have thought that picking out cream subway tile could be so diffiuclt? But as long as you bring your samples with you you’ll be able to match it and it will turn out beautifully! What is the height and width of the tiles that make the horizontal strip along the granite?

We’ve picked out our two pieces of granite and we’re excited and awaiting installation.
