You can paint a tile backsplash and totally transform your kitchen on a budget!

I am here to show you a bit more of the progress we have made!

I love a good side-by-side comparison, so here you go!

You can read all about our new laminate backsplash here. In a few years we’ll hopefully do a full renovation so don’t want to waste the money on new stuff.Towards the end of the article the backsplash is a cream color.

Additionally, these paints can be applied over existing finishes, stains and other paints so long as the existing finish is fully dry.

You can use this concrete overlay method over tile!

Meanwhile, we were trying to decide whether to stain or paint our kitchen cabinets. The painted backsplash held up perfectly as well, but we did replace it after about 18 months. At the beginning of the article the “after” pictures show the backsplash being very dark.

My partner is hesitant to paint as he says we’ll have issues when spot cleaning or wiping down the whole surface. Thank you for your blog it has really made me feel confident about painting my cabinets. However, we are not thrilled with some of the the decorative tiles that run throughout.

We just want to paint over some of the decorative tiles. I see in your after photos you used the bar style handles for your hardware. I have a smaller kitchen so it could be very obvious if it goes wrong.

Feel like they might be useful to someone, but don’t even know what to call them. I also bought a model 1402 that is giving me issues as well.

We are trying to do a similar match to another closet in the house. As a spray newbie, my question is, how do you do field touchups?

I know some shops have had problems doing this and theoretically why they should warp. I know biesmyer no longer makes these but was hoping someone had one or a couple around to sell.

We have been using a ridged vaccum to clean shop each day. This is a mid line machine with pre-mill, corner rounding etc. Staples just hold the carcase together until we get screws in it. However on a lot of the elevations, they have them required on multiple cabinets with two doors. Can anyone point me in the direction to find bearing size and where to purchace as well as instructions for how to do the replacement?

We have a situation on a large wardrobe cabinet in the master bath. Project attachment is only a mock-up, a larger project is to come afterword. I don’t have a lot of extra space so want to build a smaller version that can be stowed away when not in use. I never feel like the glue bond between pieces is good due to the slickness of the coating.

A respirator must be used for all poorly ventilated applications.

Allow each coat to dry for a minimum of 4-6 hours between coats. Allow the final coat of sealer to dry for 24-48 hours depending on weather conditions before allowing vehicle traffic. Polyurethane coatings are highly durable, easy-to-apply and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Lowe’s but typically, if you’re not getting a high gloss finish from a high solids count acrylic sealer, it’s do to the porosity of concrete itself.

We are just about done staining & sealing our pavers around the pool. The pavers are 15 years old and were faded to the point where we could barely tell what their original color was.

We could have got by with one coat but really wanted the colors to pop for us. The neutralizing easy, but the rinsing several times was a pain!

Coverage rates depend on the surface condition of the concrete. Applying an additional coat of sealer to a surface that is tacky, milky or has ridges will not improve the overall appearance of the floor and will only compound existing problems. Excellent impact and abrasion resistance providing a durable, long-lasting finish.

The lighter background showed much less soil and footprints. Curbing does tend to be more rough and porous than your typical patio surface would be which results in needs a little bit more sealer to fill the pores and deposit a nice, glossy finish on the concrete.

Simple, peel and stick installation eliminates the need for mortar or grout, and no contractor is necessary. After the resin has cured, thin sections are fractured and peeled off. This step will also ensure the color and texture consistency are to your liking. This is great for convience factor- and thats how i would recommend it. I bought tin snips for this project (ad that into the final cost too) and i had about a half dozen outlets and some other things to cut around.

I really cant understand the people who say it is cardboard. The outside of the package literally shows to cut with scissors (or snips), peel the back, and stick it on. Layers of bonding resin and fiberglass are infused into real stone blocks. The composite thin stone sheet is then cut and applied to an adhesive base. Rearrange the tiles as you see fit before adhering them to the wall. Achieve beautiful, professional looking results in one afternoon. I have a modest sized kitchen with out a 30 sq ft area between the cabinets and counters. It is almost impossible to cut a pristine straight line down the center due to the natural undulation of the rock. When we finished up there were very large unsightly gaps between the counter splashboard thing and the wall. I just opened the box and took all of the tiles out and spread them on the garage floor for a day and that pretty much aired them out. The quality is great and the finished project looks fantastic. But it is no simple task to cut them, and since its stone (on the surface layer, not the middle of course – as is stated in the product description) it can be uneven and much thicker in some spots than others. The really nice thing about these is that they are very consistent and beautifully straight, except that when you cut them you can’t possibly cut a perfectly straight line unless you have a table saw. These were easy to install and looked beautiful but then it went south.

DIY Vanity Makeover Using Concrete Overlay! by

Apply your first coat of concrete to the entire cultured marble countertop and any backsplash. I use the smaller putty knife to apply it to the small backsplash piece.

I would say as a rule of thumb, you can smooth it out with a sponge about 10 to 20 minutes after you have applied it. After the sealer dries, install your new faucet (or reinstall your old faucet). Due to the volume of comments on some of my posts, we made the tough decision to disable comments after the first day a post goes live. If so, any ideas what product/tint is good & where to find it?

I don’t know how it would react to water pressure that hard over time. Sure would be nice not to have to take off that heavy glass to clean under it. It expands and contracts and could crack the concrete overlay over time.

You can read all about why we now recommend leaving the drain stopper in here. Don’t worry, it wipes off fairly easily even after it dries. Do not try to smooth out the first coat –it will wipe right off. I don’t remove too much of the concrete, particularly on the edges and corners. Also, take care to apply sufficient sealer around the inner edge of the hole where your drain will sit, otherwise water may seep into the concrete, which you do not want. If you want to save this project for later, be sure to pin it!

We appreciate your patience as we get tons and tons of questions from readers every single day. It is in our powder room bathroom, so it doesn’t get as much traffic as our other two bathrooms!

We are now finishing up a much larger counter on an upstairs bathroom, and now that we “know what we’re doing,” it’s looking even better. It is hit with a lot of water pressure and would be a lot tougher to get smooth!

You can put it over tile but it must be clean, intact, with no cracks.
