Lemon juice (or sliced lemon) will determine whether calcite is present in the stone. It seams to me that we should be using that kind of sealer for kitchens. What harm would it be to seal with a penetrating sealer, let it fully dry, and the seal with a non-penetrating sealer on top? Seems to be the only way to seal something without sinking into it is sitting on top of it, like wax or varnish or polyurethane.

I have beed told that all granite needs to be sealed and also that not all granite needs to be sealed. The consensus there, big time, is not all granites should be sealed. I learned that some granites (not really granites but other stone composites) will not soak up the sealer, but it can sit on top & if allowed to dry, form an ugly residue.

You could also put some cooking oil on in a small puddle & if it doesn’t soak in & darken, you should be ok with not sealing. It recommends using non-penetrating sealer for food preparation surfaces instead. I haven’t got my granite installed yet because it is currently being cut and polished. I could not imagine putting a topical sealer on a granite countertop.
