Get a good sander, mask, a must, and a large piece of plastic for the floor. Use a hand sander with black/wet sand sand paper no water, fine or finer what ever you want the surface to be. However a lot of times there will be pitted areas not a lot but there none the less.
We also crushed one tile and made a fine powder from that and it helped, time wise.

You can use underfloor or radiant heating with this tile. Tiles are a bit uneven but that was to be expected with a natural stone. Don’t waste money on tile cleaners just use baking soda!
After installed we put (3) coats of a semi-gloss natural stone sealer and the floor looks like a million dollars. It’s such a warm, neutral color that blends with the furniture and the outside. The color was a blueish-gray and only one tile had a corner broken. Slate tiles are difficult to use as flooring because the cheaper kind (which is what i have) is very imperfect. Have not installed these yet, but tiles like these are easy to cut, and since they are all square and the same thickness, they will be very easy to install.
We installed this slate in our entry and our master bathroom and are very happy with it in both places. It’s suitable for a variety of projects including backsplashes accent walls retaining walls water features and cladding of support beams.
